More Alaska pictures (finally XD)
05:31pm 09/08/2007
Okay, I've been really, really lazy in getting my pictures from Alaska up. And I kept delaying because I knew how long it would take to put captions for all of them. So, I've decided not to ^^;;; I may one day come back and do something more ~coughunlikelycough~ But at I will at least categorize them by place. And so, we shall now move onto... the flight to Gustavus and then Gustavus itself.
Edit After trying to edit this entry 10 times so as to and get that one section of pictures back behind a cut I'm just giving up. And I'm done uploading pictures for now. Livejournal is just making me too frustrated to want to do anything with it anymore.. for quite a while maybe....

Scarf finished! And wrist/hand warmers on their way...
03:22pm 09/07/2007
Okay. So. I FINALLY finished my scarf I was knitting. It's final length is approximately 56 inches (That's not much shorter than me >_o ^^;;;; ). I took some pictures of it to commemorate the occasion XP

This shows the full scarf with a tape measure beside it. The stein of yarn you see is exactly like what I started with. That tiny little ball of yarn you see?.. well, that's all that's left of that one stein :( :)

Here's a close up of that side.

Here's a close up of the other side.

Here's the left wrist warmer thing I knitting. The pattern didn't turn out quite right, but the person who posted the pattern said their might be issues since they are left handed and had transposed the pattern for those who are right handed and wasn't sure if it was done 100% correct. But I don't think it looks too bad. I'm going to try and take what I learned from this to hopefully make the right one correct and if I have time after making that and my hat, try to make another left hand one.

And here's with it just slipped on my hand and me holding the other side. I still need to stitch this one up, but I need to be shown how to do that still...

Anyway, there's my boring life for you: knitting ^^;;

Knitting

One of my friends was curious as to how my scarf that I'm knitting was coming along and all that jazz so, I'm gonna post the pictures up here since it's faster than e-mailing pictures (last time I e-mailed my friend one small picture it took till the next day to reach him :\)
And it is currently 28 inches long.

Here's one side shown from one direction:

And then another:

And then close up showing the needles I'm using and my small finger is included so you can get a size comparison:

And here's the other side from one direction:

And then the other:

And close up again:

The beginning of the Alaskan journey :D
02:57pm 28/06/2007
So, we began our travel to Alaska on June 10th around 1 or 2 pm.. I don't remember the exact time of the flight leaving home. Anyway, we had to make several stops and plane changes. The last of which was changing at Seattle where we would then get on a plane to go to Juneau, Alaska. Did you know that Juneau, the capitol of Alaska, can only be reached by plane or boat? There are no roads leaving the city. Also, it is in a rain forest climate? This past winter they received and unusually large amount of snow even for them.. I don't remember the exact amount, but it was only a few feet or so under 200.. O_O So, wow.

back from Alaska
02:32pm 27/06/2007
So, I just got back from Alaska yesterday. I was there from the 10th of this month till, well, yesterday the 26th. I'm going to be uploading pictures here with commentary eventually, but first I have to comb through them and pick out the good pictures. After all, I took 1524 pictures and I'm definately not going to upload all of those. I also took a total of 8 minutes and 2 seconds of video of various things. Even all of those probably won't make it up onto the net for viewing but.. just stay tuned to my journal for updates on my Alaska trip. Though my 10 to 25 top/favorite/best pictures will be posted only on my dA account. But once those are up I'll post the links to the individual pictures here in this post most likely... or maybe in another post.. just stay tuned ;)

Hopefully other people got more and better pictures than myself. ^^;
And when I finish uploading my 10 to 30 second videos onto YouTube, I shall post them here. :) Till then ^_~v

Edit:
YouTube is evil and hates me so even though I had uploaded 3 videos.. only one actually worked ¬_¬ So here's this one at least.. I'll keep trying to get the others to work..

  Hey,
I made it back to the US and my house. Anyone see the news about the no liquids etc policy on the news because of the Britian to US flight thing? And my mom got an e-mail saying you can't bring pretty much anything on the plane with you, including computers, cell phones etc. But mom doesn't know how accurate it may be. ~sigh~ I say the world's full of crazy people.
Anyway, I need to work on getting my pictures on my computer and some what organized so I can show my family and then some of ya'll.
:)

  Hey,
So, it`s been a while again hasn`t it? Things are starting to wrap up quickly here. And I will be sad to leave. But I will be happy to see you all (well, for those of you I will be able to see) again and to hear a language I understand spoken around me at all times. Don`t get me wrong, I do like the Japanese language.. but I want to know what`s being said around me again! And I want Goldfish... I have been having the theme song from years ago come in and out of my head the entire trip. You know the one, it`s the good one: `I love the fishes cause their so delicious!` That one. It`s an awesome song. Better than the stupid jiggle they had going last time I heard (which was over a year ago since I haven`t watched much tv in that length of time ^^;;; )
I almost have my final project for Japanese done. And I still have two panels to fill and I can`t think of much more to write >_o And we only have 14 hours (two practices) of ningyojoruri practice left! AHHH!!! And today our troupe goes to perform for a middle school that works with the same troupe we do. And then they will perform their piece for us. So, that should be interesting. And I can`t wait to see the kids again. Maybe we`ll get to play dodge ball again. YAY! for non-American dodge ball - you don`t know what you`re missing out on. Seriously.
So, I have finished my shopping. Honestly. I have... except I`m going to get Arashi`s new single that comes out on the 2nd. But I swear that`s all I`m going to buy. You have no idea how little extra room I have. It`s in the negatives I think x_X But I`m working on that problem. Ahem. So, I got to get going so I can try and finish my project before leaving for out treck out to the middle school (I so want to be a English teacher there through JET ~crosses fingers~ the English teacher there is amazing and the kids I met were just awesome ^^v )
Peace out peeps!

  Hey,
Quick notes.
I got back Iida safely from Tokyo- more details on those `adventures` to come. Though note that I only got 12 hours of sleep between Friday, Saturday and Sunday night. And last night I didn`t quite get 6 hours >_<
I bought this cool card game called: Hyakunin isshu. Though, for those of you who can`t read hirigana won`t be able to play. Sorry. But for those of you who can, it`ll be good practice for us :)
Rain seems to have stopped long enough for the sun to shine brightly this afternoon.
Lots to do with not much time.
Kinki Kids are really good- I have two of their CDs now.
I have a small KAT-TUN poster.
I finally have all suveiors for my family :) ... I think ^^;;;;

made it to Tokyo
08:59pm 22/07/2006
  Hey ya`ll
I made it to Tokyo alive. The Shinkansen was awesome. The views of Japan are just awesome.
We met up with my friend`s friend who lives here. We had fun. We did a tiny bit of shopping, lunch, and visited Asakusa. It was cool.
My friend and I had dinner at Mos Burger. They really do have awesome food there. :) I can now see why Mos Burger is often (from what I`ve heard from members of my group) refered to as the number one burger place in Japan.
We then found this ubber cheap book store that also sells CDs and DVDs, though most of the things in the store are about a year old.. but that`s okay. I got a book for a dollar and a CD for 20 dollars (CDs in Japan are in average 30 dollars + x_X )
So, now we just have to decide what to do tomorrow. We`re contemplating:
Tokyo Tower
Odaiba
Akihabara (revisit because we went there with my friend and her friend today)
Edo-Tokyo Museum
But, we haven`t decided one-hundred percent as of yet.
Take care ya`ll!

hey, I know it's been a long time since I last updated. And I won't be able to give a full report now either because I'm using someone else's computer and I don't want to 'take it over' especially since I've been on for a while already.
But to give an Uber quick report: I had a homestay Saturday through Monday. It was a lot of fun and my host family is so awesome. I miss them. And I was just getting the hang of speaking Japanese. And my one host sister likes JPop too. And O.M.G.!!!!!!!! They bought me a yukata!!!! O_O!!!! I'm so happy to have one, but OMG they aren't cheap and they only knew me for two/three days and insisted on getting me a gift of a yukata. And the food was absolutely wonderful. If all Japanese food is as good as they cooked it, then I love Japanese food best of all.

[Edit]: I typed this up a few days ago and I`ll just post it now anyway, even though I`m going to type up more now XP [\Edit]

  grrr...
so, last night I got to use a non-library computer because one of the guys in the program (who isn`t at my hotel) let me use his computer for a while.. I wrote out a nice long entry... and pressed a wrong button and lost it all >_<
Though, I guess since that`s my fault I can`t be too aggrivated. Though I have discovered now a wonderful feature of lj: if you type stuff in to update and the just leave the page, it saves it for you and asks if you want to restore it when you sign back in to update the next time. Which is why I`m now not so annoyed about the library computer dying last time just as I clicked the update button.
So, anyway..
In the world of Arashi (and other JPopness) )
Studio Ghibli. I heart you!!!!! XD )
Well, it`s raining here. Which is to be expected because:
1) it`s rainy season
2) there`s a typhoon somewhere out there in the Pacific which will not hit us, I repeat it should NOT hit where I am. But it will give us lots of rain and bring a lot of warm, strike that, hot air we`ve been told. And I just checked Weatherunderground.com and it seems to confirm the non-hitting us part. So, yeah. ~shrugs~

From two days ago because library computers die....
08:05pm 08/07/2006
  Hey all,
Not too much has happened since I last wrote since I`ve been more or less studying these past two days. Though, I seem to still have gotten very little done :/
I have determined that the switch from `ohayou gozaimasu` to `konnichiwa` is around 10:30 am. I say this because it was a bit before 10:30 when I was walking over here (to the library) and two women I greeted with `ohayou gozaimasu` responded with `konnichiwa` and when I entered the library and bowed in greeting to the librarians at the front, they said `konnichiwa` as well.
Hm... I can`t think of what I was going to say..
Oh, yeah, last night at the Eigo Salon (have I mentioned that here yet? It`s every Wednesday night from 7:30 to 8:30 and members from the community are invited to come and practice their English with us, native English speakers. The past two times these really cute middle schoolers have come. But they still know so little... it`s kinda like me trying to speak Japanese... I can sometimes form a question, but I can`t really understand the answer most of the time XD At the end, I got to talking to some of the other foreigners who aren`t in our group because they stayed after everyone else left. There is a guy from Holland who is doing a homestay, one of the girls there was his homestay sister, and a girl from.. I can`t remember where, it`s not America though, and two Phillipense (did I spell that right?) guys. The Dutch boy has been here only 5 days or so and only had a four day crash course on the language. He`s here for 5 weeks. The other girl has bee here since March and will be here for a total of about a year. The one guy from the Philipense (why can`t I spell this word? >_<) has been here two years and the other one year. And they mentioned at one point this thing they go to on Saturdays where volenteers help them with their Japanese... so I gave the one girl my number so hopefully I`ll get to go to that. :)
Well, that`s all for now ya`ll!

Hey, another update from yours truly.
Yesterday I got a postcard from a friend of mine who was in Singapore visiting family :D So that was awesome.

Tenimyu stuff )

Darn.... I know I was going to say something else.. but I can`t remember now :(
Oh, I remember.

when in a book store the other day.. )
Well, I think that is it this time. I`m going to do a bit of studying. Oh, most people on the program are out of town. Half to this camp thing that the professors organized (an optional thing) and the other half went to Toyko since we are allowed to travel. However, I decided it was cheaper to stay here and it would give me a chance to catch up on studying. And just relaxing in general. :)

some ranting...
10:23am 28/06/2006
Okay, everyone in this program it seems has had their share of complaining and whining, so now it`s mine turn:
I am so SICK and TIRED of what feels like almost everyone`s constant whining and complaining and not caring and just not giving a damn about practically everything we do! Why on earth are they here?! Why did they pay so much money to come and study in Japan if all they are going to do is whine and moan about it?! I know that things are never going to always and forever work out as you wanted, but come ON! Can`t they learn to deal with anything! and just go with the flow! And some of them want to learn Japanese (they say) but they don`t want to do any of the work and they want to slack off! WHAT. THE. HELL. ARGH! Maybe they aren`t as bad as they seem、but they are really starting to grate my nerves. I guess I should take my own advice and just deal with it. But ARGH! I wish they would stop. And maybe try being happy for a while. And maybe be somewhat opptimistic.. maybe at least not so pessimistic?
Gah, I miss my friends back at home and at college. :( I know we whined and complained too sometimes, but never to this extant. And I miss being able to fangirl. And being able to talk about random, weird stuff that we enjoy having converstations about. And the debate/talks that some of us would have about whatever, even sometimes stuff that maybe really isn`t worth such long conversations.. but ones that I enjoyed anyway. ~sigh~
Okay, so to make sure this entire update is so `down` I`m going to talk about something happy now.
Last night we went to Kyuudou again (Japanese archery) and at first it looked like we`d just be observing again, which I don`t mind too much because they Japanese are cute and fun to watch and I find Kyuudou interesting in general anyway. But, a guy who is a long time friend of our professor- the one who organized the trip- was there and even though he knows very little English, he showed us how to walk, stand, hold the bow and arrow when you are not shooting and after the snack break (I love Japanese people so much :), though I think we need to say something next time we go and see if we can`t sit on the tatami mat like them. I know they are trying to be considerate of us Westerners by moving things so we can sit in chairs, but I feel like that is just one more barrier between us and them. Anyway...) the students and the sensei moved out to do closer range shooting (I have no idea if this is normal to do sometimes or they were just doing it to accomidate us) and then our professor`s friend showed us how to enter and everything up till just before you shoot, skipping the shooting part for now and then how to exit. And today instead of culture class, we are going to a Kyuudou exibition. :D
Well, I noticed a fanfic I started reading a long time ago is updated so... :P (it`s actually the fic that got me to really start reading P.o.T. fanfiction XP)

classes
02:36pm 27/06/2006
Classes have just started picking up momentum. Actually, that`s not quite right, today class landed on Pluto when last week I didn`t even realize we were on the shuttle. X_X We`re going to have to do this project thing about picking a favorite place and then interviewing people.. but thankfully we don`t have to interview anyone by tomorrow, just have the place picked out and answer four questions... in Japanese.. but I have a dictionary.. and yeah.. I`ll do my best. It`s going to be rough though. We`re starting with Genki II (I still haven`t finished Genki I yet and I don`t have my Genki II book in yet- our professor ordered them for those of us who didn`t have them yet). And we`re going to be doing chapters 13-18. Which is spending at most 3 days on any chapter. v_V And I think one or two chapters only get two days. It`s going to be intense. And our professor is Japanese and she speaks very little English to us, though she knows it well. She keeps saying she`ll always correct our Japanese, though we can correct her English, but she speaks good English. I mean, you can tell from her accent or whatever that she`s Japanese, but that doesn`t change the fact that she speaks it very well.
So, yeah, for the project I`m most likely going to pick here: the library. I can`t think of any where else and I visit here more than any other non-food place other than my hotel. But Sensei said that should be okay. She said that she`d explain how to do the interviews and all that stuff later. And apparently we`re going to have to translate the website of the hotel that most people are staying at.. but she said something about `group`... but I don`t know if that means small groups or we as a class will function as a large group.
Anyway, I`m going to go and see if the study room they have here is full and sit in there for a while and do some studying.
Take care.
